जलंधरयुद्धे मायाप्रयोगः — Jalandhara’s Māyā in the Battle with Śiva
ततश्शिवो विस्मितमानसः पुनर्जगाम युद्धाय जलंधरं रुषा । स चापि दैत्यः पुनरागतं शिवं दृष्ट्वा शरोघैस्समवाकिरद्रणे
tataśśivo vismitamānasaḥ punarjagāma yuddhāya jalaṃdharaṃ ruṣā | sa cāpi daityaḥ punarāgataṃ śivaṃ dṛṣṭvā śaroghaissamavākiradraṇe
Then Śiva, his mind filled with astonishment, once again advanced in wrath to battle Jalandhara. And that demon too—seeing Śiva return—showered him in the battlefield with torrents of arrows.

Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Rudra
It portrays the clash between Pati (Śiva, the supreme Lord) and the daityic ego that resists dharma. Śiva’s “astonishment” and “wrath” indicate divine responsiveness: the Lord acts to restrain adharmic force, reminding devotees that grace also appears as protective power.
The battle narrative highlights Saguna Śiva—God with attributes—who intervenes within time and history. For Liṅga worshippers, it reinforces that the same transcendent Śiva (worshipped as the Liṅga) also manifests as the active protector of devotees and cosmic order.
A practical takeaway is japa of the Pañcākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) to steady the mind when facing inner ‘arrow-showers’ of anger, fear, or pride; and maintaining Śiva-bhakti with vibhūti (Tripuṇḍra) and Rudrākṣa as reminders of surrender to Pati.
