जलंधरयुद्धे मायाप्रयोगः — Jalandhara’s Māyā in the Battle with Śiva
Beholding His exceedingly terrible, supremely wrathful form, the great asuras could not stand before Him; they fled and took to the ten directions.
Sūta Gosvāmin (narrating to the sages of Naimiṣāraṇya)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Rudra
Rudra’s raudra-form symbolizes the irresistible power of Pati (Shiva) that shatters pasha—bondage such as fear, arrogance, and violence. The asuras’ flight shows that adharma cannot remain in the direct presence of divine consciousness.
The verse highlights Saguna Shiva—Shiva manifesting with form to protect dharma. In Linga-worship, devotees approach the same Lord as the steady, auspicious center; the raudra aspect is His protective force that removes inner and outer obstacles.
A practical takeaway is japa of the Pañcākṣarī mantra ("Om Namaḥ Śivāya") with Rudra-bhāva—remembering Shiva as the remover of negativity—along with calm, inward contemplation to let fear and hostile impulses “flee” from the mind.
