अध्याय १७ — देवपलायनं, विष्णोः प्रतियुद्धं, जलंधरक्रोधः
Devas’ Rout, Viṣṇu’s Counterattack, and Jalandhara’s Wrath
तयोश्च तेन युद्धेन परस्परमभून्मुने । देवासुरर्षिसिद्धानां भीकरेणातिविस्मयः

O sage, as those two fought one another in that battle, the gods, the asuras, the seers, and the siddhas were struck with overwhelming astonishment at its terrifying intensity.

The verse highlights how cosmic conflict can appear fearsome to even devas and siddhas, reminding the seeker that worldly power and spectacle inspire wonder, while true steadiness is found in taking refuge in Pati (Śiva) beyond turmoil.
In the Yuddhakhaṇḍa setting, the terrifying battle underscores the limits of created beings; worship of the Liṅga (Saguna Śiva as the accessible support) is presented in the Purāṇa as the stabilizing refuge amid such cosmic upheavals.
A practical takeaway is to cultivate fearlessness through japa of the Pañcākṣarī mantra (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) and steady remembrance of Śiva, especially when the mind is shaken by ‘bhīkara’ experiences.
