Nārada’s Austerities Described
तुष्टाव गिरिशं भक्त्या शिवात्मा शैवराड् हरिः । सांजलिर्विसुधीर्नम्रमस्तकः परमेश्वरम्
tuṣṭāva giriśaṃ bhaktyā śivātmā śaivarāḍ hariḥ | sāṃjalirvisudhīrnamramastakaḥ parameśvaram
Hari (Viṣṇu)—whose inner being was devoted to Śiva and who was foremost among Śiva’s devotees—praised Girīśa with bhakti. With purified understanding, he stood with palms joined and head bowed, worshipping the Supreme Lord (Parameśvara).
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
It presents bhakti and humility as the proper approach to Parameśvara: even Hari (Viṣṇu) worships Śiva with purified intellect, showing Śiva’s supreme status as Pati and the model of devotion for all beings.
The verse emphasizes reverential, personal worship—añjali and bowed head—characteristic of Saguna Śiva-upāsanā; in the Shiva Purana this same devotion is directed to Śiva’s accessible forms, including the Śiva-liṅga as the worship-focus of Parameśvara.
Practice Śiva-bhakti with añjali (joined palms), a bowed head, and a purified mind—ideally alongside japa of the Pañcākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) during daily pūjā or Mahāśivarātri observance.
