भक्तिभेदाः—ज्ञानप्रधानभक्तेः प्रशंसा
Grades of Devotees and the Praise of Knowledge-Centered Devotion
आर्तो जिज्ञासुरर्थार्थी ज्ञानी चैव चतुर्थकः । पूर्वे त्रयश्च सामान्याश्चतुर्थो हि विशिष्यते
ārto jijñāsurarthārthī jñānī caiva caturthakaḥ | pūrve trayaśca sāmānyāścaturtho hi viśiṣyate
The distressed, the seeker of knowledge, the seeker of worldly gain, and the true knower—these are the four. The first three are of a common kind, but the fourth, the genuine knower, is indeed distinguished as superior.

Role: teaching
Offering: dipa
It classifies four approaches to Shiva—seeking relief, knowledge, prosperity, and liberating wisdom—teaching that devotion grounded in true knowledge of Shiva as Pati (the Lord) is the most elevated and leads toward freedom from pāśa (bondage).
All four may worship Shiva in saguna form—especially through Linga worship—but the jñānī sees the Linga not merely as a giver of boons, rather as the doorway to realizing Shiva’s supreme lordship and the devotee’s release from bondage.
Transform motive-based worship into knowledge-based devotion by steady japa of the Pañcākṣarī (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) with Tripuṇḍra (bhasma) and Rudrākṣa, offering Linga abhiṣeka while contemplating Shiva as the liberator (Pati) rather than only a boon-giver.
