कामविवाहवर्णनम् / Description of Kāma’s Marriage
ततः किमभवत्तात चरितं तद्वदाधुना । अहं श्रद्धान्वितः श्रोतुं यदि शम्भुकथाश्रयम्
tataḥ kimabhavattāta caritaṃ tadvadādhunā | ahaṃ śraddhānvitaḥ śrotuṃ yadi śambhukathāśrayam
Then what happened, dear one? Tell that account now. I am filled with faith and long to hear, for my mind rests upon the sacred narrative of Śambhu (Śiva).
A disciple-like interlocutor in the Sati Khanda (traditionally the sages’ inquirer addressing the narrator, within Suta’s narration)
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Sadāśiva
Role: teaching
It highlights śraddhā (faith) and śiva-kathā-śravaṇa (listening to Shiva’s sacred narrative) as a direct devotional means to purify the mind and orient the soul toward Pati (Śiva), consistent with Shaiva Siddhanta emphasis on grace accessed through devotion and right hearing.
By taking refuge in “Śambhu’s story,” the devotee turns toward Saguna Śiva—His compassionate, knowable form and deeds—through which devotion matures and becomes fit for deeper contemplation of the Linga as the sacred focus of worship and presence.
Regular śiva-kathā-śravaṇa (hearing Shiva Purana) with faith—ideally alongside japa of the Panchakshara “Om Namaḥ Śivāya” and simple worship such as offering water to the Linga—fits the verse’s intent of devoted listening and inner refuge.
