मृतसंजीवनीमन्त्रो मम सर्वोत्तमः स्मृतः । एवं जपपरः प्रीत्या नियमेन शिवं स्मरन्
mṛtasaṃjīvanīmantro mama sarvottamaḥ smṛtaḥ | evaṃ japaparaḥ prītyā niyamena śivaṃ smaran
“The Mṛtasaṃjīvanī mantra is remembered as My most excellent mantra. Therefore, with loving reverence, devoted to its repetition and observing proper discipline, one should remember Lord Śiva.”
Lord Shiva
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
Jyotirlinga: Vaidyanātha
Sthala Purana: Vaidyanātha is famed as the ‘Divine Physician’ aspect of Śiva; the verse’s emphasis on a life-restoring mantra naturally aligns with Śiva as healer who removes mṛtyu-bhaya and grants ārogya and longevity.
Significance: Japa of life-restoring Śaiva mantras is sought for protection from untimely death, healing, and strengthening of prāṇa; pilgrimage reinforces śaraṇāgati (taking refuge) in Śiva as Vaidya.
Type: mahamrityunjaya
Role: liberating
Cosmic Event: Protection from mṛtyu (death) through mantra as a grace-mediated upāya
It presents mantra-japa done with devotion (prīti) and discipline (niyama) as a direct means of sustaining Shiva-remembrance, which purifies the soul and supports liberation according to Shaiva Siddhanta.
By emphasizing remembrance of Shiva alongside japa, it aligns with Saguna worship—where the devotee approaches Shiva through name, mantra, and focused contemplation, often supported by Linga-worship as the concrete center of devotion.
Regular mantra-japa of the Mṛtasaṃjīvanī with niyama—fixed time, purity, and devotional intent—while keeping the mind anchored in Shiva-smaraṇa (continuous remembrance).
