dharma uvāca | devadeva mahādeva dharmapāla namostu te | sṛṣṭisthitivināśānāṃ kartā śaṃbho tvameva hi
Dharma said: “O God of gods, O Mahādeva, O Protector of dharma—salutations to You. O Śambhu, You alone indeed are the agent of creation, preservation, and dissolution.”
Dharma
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
Mantra: देवदेव महादेव धर्मपाल नमोस्तु ते । सृष्टिस्थितिविनाशानां कर्ता शंभो त्वमेव हि
Type: stotra
The verse establishes Śiva as the supreme Lord who upholds dharma and governs sṛṣṭi–sthiti–laya, inviting surrender (śaraṇāgati) and devotion to the Pati who grants both worldly order and liberation.
By praising Śambhu as the active Lord of cosmic functions, the verse supports saguna-upāsanā—worship of Śiva in accessible form (such as the Liṅga) while recognizing Him as the supreme reality directing creation, preservation, and dissolution.
A practical takeaway is namaskāra with japa—repeat “Om Namaḥ Śivāya” while contemplating Śiva as Dharmapāla and the Lord of sṛṣṭi–sthiti–laya; offer water and bilva to the Liṅga with this remembrance.
