पार्वत्याः यात्रासंस्कारः तथा पातिव्रत्योपदेशः / Preparations for Girijā’s Auspicious Journey and the Teaching on Pātivratya
एवम्पतिव्रताधर्मो वर्णितस्ते गिरीन्द्रजे । तद्भेदाञ् शृणु सुप्रीत्या सावधानतयाऽद्य मे
evampativratādharmo varṇitaste girīndraje | tadbhedāñ śṛṇu suprītyā sāvadhānatayā'dya me
Thus, O daughter of the Lord of mountains, I have described to you the dharma of the devoted wife (pativratā). Now, with gladness and careful attention, listen today from me to its various divisions.
Lord Shiva
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Dakṣiṇāmūrti
Shakti Form: Pārvatī
Role: teaching
The verse marks a transition: Shiva has outlined the essence of pativratā-dharma and now introduces its detailed classifications, emphasizing that dharma must be learned with joy and careful attention for it to become transformative.
In the Parvatī-khaṇḍa, Shiva’s instruction to Parvatī reflects Saguna Shiva as the compassionate Guru; listening attentively (śravaṇa) to his teaching is itself a devotional act that supports disciplined worship and inner purification.
The direct practice indicated is attentive listening (śravaṇa) and mindful contemplation of Shiva’s dharma-teaching; it prepares the practitioner for steady vrata-observance and focused devotion, often paired in Shaiva practice with japa of “Om Namaḥ Śivāya.”
