Menā said: “O treasure-house of compassion, having shown mercy you will protect Śivā (Pārvatī). O Āśutoṣa, you will forgive even a thousand faults of Pārvatī.”
Menā (mother of Pārvatī)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
Shakti Form: Pārvatī
Role: nurturing
The verse highlights Śiva as kṛpānidhi (the storehouse of grace) and Āśutoṣa (easily pleased), emphasizing that divine compassion protects the devotee and forgiveness flows from sincere devotion—an important Shaiva Siddhānta theme of Pati’s grace uplifting the bound soul.
By addressing Śiva as Āśutoṣa and seeking his protection and pardon, the verse reflects personal (saguṇa) devotion—typical of Liṅga worship where the devotee approaches the Lord with humility, prayer, and trust in his quick, compassionate response.
The practical takeaway is kṣamā-prārthanā (asking forgiveness) during daily Śiva-pūjā—especially while offering water and bilva leaves to the Liṅga and mentally repeating the Pañcākṣarī mantra, “Om Namaḥ Śivāya,” with a mood of surrender.
