अध्याय ४९ — विवाहानुष्ठाने ब्रह्मणः काममोहः
Brahmā’s Enchantment by Desire during the Wedding Rites
हाहाकारो महानासीत्तत्र सर्वत्र नारद । जनाश्च कम्पिरे सर्व्वे भय मायाति विश्वभृत्
hāhākāro mahānāsīttatra sarvatra nārada | janāśca kampire sarvve bhaya māyāti viśvabhṛt
O Nārada, a great cry of lamentation arose everywhere there; all the people trembled as fear came upon the Sustainer of the universe.
Brahmā (narrating to Nārada)
Tattva Level: pashu
The verse highlights how worldly existence (pāśa) manifests as fear and trembling when stability is shaken; in Shaiva Siddhanta, such moments point the bound soul (paśu) toward seeking refuge in Pati—Lord Śiva—as the unwavering support beyond changing conditions.
When the world is overwhelmed by fear, the Purāṇic message is to turn to Saguna Śiva—worshipped as the Liṅga—as the accessible, compassionate form of the Supreme who grants protection (abhaya) and steadiness to devotees.
A practical takeaway is to steady the mind with japa of the Pañcākṣarī—“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”—and, if following Shaiva observance, apply tripuṇḍra (bhasma) and maintain remembrance of Śiva to transform fear into devotion and inner composure.
