मेनायाः क्रोध-विलापः — Menā’s Lament and Reproach
to the Sage
मनसा वचसा मातः कर्मणा च हरस्त्वयम् । मया वृतो वृतश्चैव यदिच्छसि तथा कुरु
manasā vacasā mātaḥ karmaṇā ca harastvayam | mayā vṛto vṛtaścaiva yadicchasi tathā kuru
“O Mother, by mind, by speech, and by action you have indeed won over Hara (Śiva). I have chosen you, and you have chosen me as well—now do as you wish.”
Lord Shiva (Hara)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Umāpati
Sthala Purana: Not a Jyotirliṅga account; it is a consent/grace statement by Hara within the marriage narrative, emphasizing mutual ‘choice’ and freedom within dharma.
Significance: Read as a template for aligning manas-vāk-karman (thought, speech, action) toward Śiva—an integrated sādhana culminating in anugraha (Śiva’s acceptance).
Shakti Form: Pārvatī
Role: nurturing
The verse teaches that true union with Śiva is secured through integrity in all three channels—mind, speech, and action—showing that devotion becomes effective when inner intention and outer conduct are harmonized.
It reflects Saguna Śiva’s grace: the personal Lord responds to sincere bhakti and disciplined conduct. Linga-worship similarly emphasizes inner purity alongside outward ritual, because the Linga represents Śiva who is approached through both devotion and right living.
A practical takeaway is the tri-fold discipline (manas–vāk–kāya śuddhi): chant pañcākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) with focused mind, speak truthfully and gently, and perform Śiva-sevā (such as Linga abhiṣeka, wearing rudrākṣa, and applying tripuṇḍra) with steady, ethical action.
