मेना-शिवदर्शन-प्रस्थानम् | Menā’s Quest to Behold Śiva
Departure for Śiva’s Darśana
स्थितां शिरोगृहे मेनां मुने विश्वेश्वर त्वया । तथैव दर्शयामास हृद्विभ्रंशो यथा भवेत्
sthitāṃ śirogṛhe menāṃ mune viśveśvara tvayā | tathaiva darśayāmāsa hṛdvibhraṃśo yathā bhavet
O sage, you—Viśveśvara—showed Menā as she stood in her inner chamber, in such a way that her heart was shaken and her composure was broken.
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pasha
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
Jyotirlinga: Viśvanātha
Sthala Purana: The epithet Viśveśvara/Viśvanātha evokes Kāśī, where Śiva is Lord of the universe and grants liberation; here used as a divine title rather than an explicit pilgrimage episode.
Significance: Darśana of Viśvanātha is traditionally linked with jñāna and mokṣa-bestowing grace (anugraha), especially at Kāśī.
Shakti Form: Pārvatī
Role: teaching
The verse highlights the transformative power of Śiva’s darśana: when the Pati (Lord) reveals Himself, the limited mind and ordinary emotional steadiness of the paśu (individual) can be overwhelmed, indicating grace (anugraha) breaking through worldly composure.
It reflects Saguna Śiva’s accessibility through manifest presence and darśana—central to Linga worship—where the devotee encounters the Lord in a perceivable form, and the heart is moved from worldly stability toward devotion and surrender.
A practical takeaway is darśana-bhāvanā: steady meditation on Śiva as Viśveśvara (often supported by japa of the Pañcākṣarī, “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”), allowing the heart to soften and turn inward in devotion.
