मेना-शिवदर्शन-प्रस्थानम् | Menā’s Quest to Behold Śiva
Departure for Śiva’s Darśana
तं दृष्ट्वा प्राह सा मेना रुद्रोऽयमिति हर्षिता । नेति त्वमब्रवीस्तां वै तावदीशान आगतः
taṃ dṛṣṭvā prāha sā menā rudro'yamiti harṣitā | neti tvamabravīstāṃ vai tāvadīśāna āgataḥ
Seeing him, Menā spoke with delight, “This indeed is Rudra (Śiva).” But you replied to her, “No.” At that very moment, Īśāna (Lord Śiva, the Supreme Lord) arrived.
Narrator (traditionally Suta Goswami narrating the Purana)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Īśāna
It highlights intuitive bhakti: Menā’s joyful recognition of Rudra contrasts with doubt and denial, while Śiva as Īśāna manifests immediately—showing that sincere recognition and reverence draw the Lord’s grace.
Menā’s identification of “Rudra” reflects Saguna-upāsanā—recognizing the Lord in a perceivable form. In Śaiva Siddhānta, such recognition supports devotion that later matures into understanding Śiva as Īśāna, the supreme Pati beyond limited appearances.
The practical takeaway is to cultivate recognition (smaraṇa) of Śiva as Īśāna through daily japa of the Pañcākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) and simple reverential worship (archana), replacing doubt with steady devotion.
