मेना-शिवदर्शन-प्रस्थानम् | Menā’s Quest to Behold Śiva
Departure for Śiva’s Darśana
नेति त्वमब्रवीस्तां वै तावद्धनद आगतः । ततोऽपि द्विगुणां शोभां बिभ्राणो गुह्यकाधिपः
neti tvamabravīstāṃ vai tāvaddhanada āgataḥ | tato'pi dviguṇāṃ śobhāṃ bibhrāṇo guhyakādhipaḥ
When you said to her, “No,” at that very moment Dhanada (Kubera) arrived; and the Lord of the Guhyakas appeared, bearing a splendour twice as radiant as before.
Sūta Gosvāmin (narrating to the sages at Naimiṣāraṇya, within the Rudrasaṃhitā narrative flow)
Tattva Level: pashu
The verse highlights how worldly power and prosperity (Kubera, the lord of wealth) can appear with dazzling splendour, yet the Shaiva perspective urges discernment—radiance and riches are secondary to devotion to Pati (Śiva) and inner purity that leads toward mokṣa.
Kubera’s doubled splendour contrasts external brilliance with the higher refuge of Saguna Śiva worship—devotees are taught to value steadfast bhakti to Śiva (often centered on the Liṅga) over fascination with celestial opulence.
A practical takeaway is to maintain vairāgya while performing daily Śiva-upāsanā—japa of the Pañcākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) with Tripuṇḍra (bhasma) and a calm mind, treating wealth as a trust rather than an identity.
