Brahmā said: At that time, as Śambhu was conversing with the gods, he was, by Kāma—the god of desire—alone made as though brought under control, like an ordinary worldly man who falls under another’s power.

It highlights how desire (kāma) can subdue even the strongest mind—yet in Śaiva understanding, Śiva’s “being subdued” is a divine līlā that teaches the soul (paśu) to recognize and transcend bondage (pāśa) through devotion and discernment.
As Saguna Śiva, Śambhu participates in cosmic narrative to instruct devotees; worship of the Liṅga trains the mind to move from desire-driven perception to steadiness in Śiva, the Lord who is ultimately untouched by passion though he may appear to be affected for the world’s guidance.
A practical takeaway is japa of the Pañcākṣarī mantra (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) with restraint of the senses; applying Tripuṇḍra (bhasma) and maintaining purity of intention are supportive disciplines for mastering kāma.
