It highlights śravaṇa (devout listening) to Śiva-carita as a purifier of the mind: wonder and reverence arise, turning the heart toward Pati (Śiva), the liberating Lord in Śaiva Siddhānta.
By praising the ‘carita’ of Śiva and His divine consort, the verse supports Saguna-bhakti—approaching Śiva through His manifested deeds and grace, which naturally leads devotees to Linga-worship as the accessible emblem of His presence.
A practical takeaway is regular śravaṇa and svādhyāya—hearing/reciting Śiva Purāṇa narratives—ideally alongside japa of the Pañcākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) to stabilize devotion and contemplation.
