अनरण्यसुता–पिप्पलादचरितम् / The Episode of Anaraṇya’s Daughter and Sage Pippalāda
पद्मापि नृपकन्या सा पिप्पलादप्रिसा तदा । साध्वी तं धर्ममाज्ञाय विस्मितोवाच पर्वत
padmāpi nṛpakanyā sā pippalādaprisā tadā | sādhvī taṃ dharmamājñāya vismitovāca parvata
Then the virtuous royal maiden Padmā—dear to Pippalāda—having understood the righteous path of Dharma, was filled with wonder; and Parvata spoke in amazement.
Sūta Gosvāmin (narrating the Purāṇic account; the direct speech is attributed to Parvata)

The verse highlights dharma as something to be recognized inwardly and affirmed through virtuous character (sādhvī). In Shaiva understanding, right conduct supports devotion and prepares the seeker for Shiva’s grace (anugraha).
Though the verse is narrative, it frames the importance of dharma and astonished reverence—qualities that underpin Saguna Shiva worship (including Linga-pūjā). In the Shiva Purana, devotion becomes stable when grounded in righteous living.
A practical takeaway is to align daily conduct with dharma and then support it with simple Shaiva practice—such as japa of the Pañcākṣarī mantra (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”)—so that inner clarity and devotion grow together.
