स्वयं प्रदाता सर्वेभ्यः सुखदुःखवरान्क्षमः । सम्पदं विपदं यो हि नमस्तस्मै शिवाय हि
svayaṃ pradātā sarvebhyaḥ sukhaduḥkhavarānkṣamaḥ | sampadaṃ vipadaṃ yo hi namastasmai śivāya hi
Salutations indeed to that Śiva—who Himself is the giver to all, who can bestow boons as happiness and as sorrow, and who truly dispenses both prosperity and adversity.

It teaches that Śiva’s lordship includes administering both pleasant and painful results; in Shaiva Siddhanta this is understood as His governance of karma and His grace guiding the soul toward maturity and liberation.
In Linga/Saguna worship, the devotee surrenders outcomes to Śiva, recognizing Him as the ultimate dispenser of life’s gains and losses; the verse supports steadfast bhakti regardless of changing circumstances.
Practice Panchākṣarī japa (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) with equanimity, offering both success and hardship to Śiva; optionally reinforce this attitude with Tripuṇḍra (bhasma) and daily Śiva-pūjā.
