कामदाहोत्तरवृत्तान्तः / Aftermath of Kāma’s Burning
Pārvatī’s Fear and Himavān’s Consolation
नारद उवाच । शृणु देवि मनोरस्य प्रभावं परमाद्भुतम् । यस्य श्रवणमात्रेण शंकरस्तु प्रसीदति
nārada uvāca | śṛṇu devi manorasya prabhāvaṃ paramādbhutam | yasya śravaṇamātreṇa śaṃkarastu prasīdati
Narada said: “O Goddess, listen to the supremely wondrous power of Manora; by merely hearing of it, Shankara (Lord Shiva) becomes gracious and pleased.”
Narada
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Umāpati
Type: stotra
Shakti Form: Pārvatī
Role: nurturing
The verse elevates śravaṇa (devotional hearing) as a direct means to awaken Shiva’s grace: even hearing the sacred glory of a holy subject like “Manora” becomes a bhakti-act that turns the heart toward Pati (Shiva), leading to prasāda.
It emphasizes Saguna-upāsanā through kathā and nāma: hearing about Shiva and Shiva-connected sacred powers is itself worship, akin to approaching the Linga with reverence—Shankara is pleased by sincere devotion expressed through attentive listening.
Practice śravaṇa of Shiva-kathā or recitation sessions: listen to Shiva Purana passages with a focused mind, then conclude with simple japa such as “Om Namaḥ Śivāya,” offering the merit to Shankara for his prasāda.
