कामदाहोत्तरवृत्तान्तः / Aftermath of Kāma’s Burning
Pārvatī’s Fear and Himavān’s Consolation
न सिद्यति क्रिया कापि सर्वेषां सद्गुरुं विना । मया श्रुता पुरा सत्यं श्रुतिरेषा सनातनी
na sidyati kriyā kāpi sarveṣāṃ sadguruṃ vinā | mayā śrutā purā satyaṃ śrutireṣā sanātanī
Without the true Sadguru, no spiritual practice succeeds for anyone. This truth I heard long ago; it is an eternal teaching of the Śruti, revealed wisdom.
Suta Goswami (narrating Shiva Purana teachings in the Rudrasaṃhitā to the sages at Naimiṣāraṇya)
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Dakṣiṇāmūrti
Role: teaching
It establishes Guru-tattva as indispensable: without a Sadguru, even sincere kriyā (ritual, mantra, yoga) does not reach siddhi, because right knowledge, method, and Shiva’s grace are accessed through authentic guidance.
Linga-worship and Saguna Shiva upāsanā require correct vidhi (procedure), bhāva (devotional attitude), and mantra-nyāsa; the Sadguru transmits the proper Shaiva way so worship becomes a living channel for Shiva’s anugraha (grace), not merely external action.
Seek initiation and instruction from a Sadguru for Shiva-mantra japa (especially the Panchākṣarī, Om Namaḥ Śivāya) and for correct observances like bhasma (tripuṇḍra) and Rudrākṣa, so practice is aligned with Śruti and becomes fruitful.
