The Māhātmya of the Nandikeśvara Śiva-liṅga
गिरिश उवाच । ऋषिके सुचरित्रा त्वं मम भक्ता विशेषतः । दत्ता वराश्च ते सर्वे तुभ्यं येये हि याचिताः
giriśa uvāca | ṛṣike sucaritrā tvaṃ mama bhaktā viśeṣataḥ | dattā varāśca te sarve tubhyaṃ yeye hi yācitāḥ
Girish (Lord Śiva) said: “O holy woman, you are of noble conduct and are especially devoted to Me. All the boons you have asked for—each and every one—have been granted to you.”
Lord Shiva (Girish)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
Sthala Purana: Śiva confirms the devotee’s special bhakti and declares all requested boons granted—often preceding the establishment of a liṅga/kṣetra or the conferral of loka-hitakārī benefits.
Significance: Assures devotees that sincere bhakti and right conduct (sucaritra, vrata) culminate in īśvara-prasāda; supports faith in kṣetra-darśana and stuti as efficacious.
Role: liberating
The verse highlights Śiva as the compassionate Pati (Lord) who responds to sincere bhakti: virtue and exclusive devotion become the channel through which His grace manifests as fulfilled prayers and spiritual protection.
Śiva speaks in a personal, Saguna mode—directly blessing the devotee—showing that Linga/Saguna worship is a relational path where the Lord acknowledges devotion and bestows results, ultimately guiding the devotee toward higher realization.
The practical takeaway is steadfast bhakti with purity of conduct—supported by japa of the Pañcākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) and regular Śiva-pūjā (often with bhasma and rudrākṣa in Shaiva practice) as a means to please Śiva and receive His grace.
