नीलकण्ठो मंगलेशो मंगलायतनो महान् । महाकपीश्वरो देवः स्थापितो हि हनूमता
nīlakaṇṭho maṃgaleśo maṃgalāyatano mahān | mahākapīśvaro devaḥ sthāpito hi hanūmatā
The great Lord—Nīlakaṇṭha, the Blue-throated; Maṅgaleśa, Lord of auspiciousness; the vast abode of all blessedness—was indeed installed by Hanumān as Mahākapīśvara.
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Nīlakaṇṭha
Jyotirlinga: Oṃkāreśvara
Sthala Purana: On the bank of the Revā (Narmadā), Hanumān establishes Śiva as Mahākapīśvara—Nīlakaṇṭha, Maṅgaleśa, the very abode of auspiciousness—thereby sanctifying the kṣetra and making it a giver of siddhi and welfare.
Significance: Darśana/arcana of Maṅgaleśa-Mahākapīśvara is praised as maṅgala-prada (auspiciousness-bestowing) and as a kṣetra where sins are attenuated and spiritual aims are supported.
Type: stotra
Offering: pushpa
It affirms Śiva as the very source and dwelling-place of maṅgala (auspicious grace) and shows that sincere bhakti—here embodied by Hanumān—can establish a powerful, grace-bestowing form of Saguna Śiva for the upliftment of devotees.
The word sthāpitaḥ indicates a consecration/installation, pointing to liṅga-based Saguna worship where the transcendent (Nirguṇa) Lord is approached through an accessible sacred form that channels śiva-anugraha (divine grace).
It suggests liṅga-sevā—regular abhiṣeka, offering of bilva leaves, and japa of the Pañcākṣarī mantra “Om Namaḥ Śivāya,” performed with the same steadfast devotion exemplified by Hanumān.
