दशशैवव्रतप्रश्नः — Inquiry into the Ten Principal Śaiva Vratas
O Sūta, although this true matter has indeed been heard by many sages, no doubt remains in our minds; therefore, I shall relate that very account to you.
Suta Goswami (narrative voice addressing the sages; verse addresses Sūta, indicating a sage speaking within the dialogue frame)
Tattva Level: pashu
It affirms the Shaiva principle that true teaching, received through śravaṇa (devout listening) in satsanga, removes doubt and stabilizes faith—preparing the seeker for devotion to Pati (Shiva) and liberation.
In Kotirudra’s Jyotirlinga context, it supports repeated hearing of the Linga’s glory and pilgrim narratives as a means to strengthen niścaya (conviction) in Saguna Shiva’s grace manifesting through sacred forms and places.
The implied practice is regular śravaṇa and kīrtana of Shiva-kathā—hearing and reciting Jyotirlinga māhātmya with faith; this can be paired with japa of the Panchakshara (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) to make the teaching inwardly firm.
