The Recital/Teaching of the Thousand Names of Śiva
तेजस्तेजो द्युतिधरो जनकः सर्वशासकः । नृत्यप्रियो नृत्यनित्यः प्रकाशात्मा प्रकाशकः
tejastejo dyutidharo janakaḥ sarvaśāsakaḥ | nṛtyapriyo nṛtyanityaḥ prakāśātmā prakāśakaḥ
He is the very brilliance of all brilliance, the bearer of divine radiance; the primal source, the ruler of all. He delights in the cosmic dance and is eternally established in dance; He is Light itself and the One who illumines all.
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Naṭarāja
Type: stotra
Role: creative
Offering: dipa
Cosmic Event: Cosmic dance as the rhythmic ground of manifestation—light revealing all names and forms.
The verse praises Shiva as both transcendent Light (prakāśātmā) and the immanent revealer (prakāśakaḥ), indicating that liberation arises through His grace as the one who dispels ignorance and governs all beings as Pati (Lord).
In Jyotirlinga devotion, Shiva is adored as the supreme radiance made accessible—Saguna worship of the Linga points to the same truth named here: Shiva is the source of all light and the one who makes all knowledge and experience possible.
Meditate on Shiva as inner illumination while chanting the Panchakshara “Om Namaḥ Śivāya,” and contemplate His Nataraja-bhava (eternal dance) as the rhythmic order behind creation, preservation, and dissolution.
