Whoever, with true devotion, bathes Śiva—Rāmeśvara—with the divine waters of the Gaṅgā, that person is indeed liberated while still living (jīvanmukta).

Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Umāpati
Jyotirlinga: Rāmeśvara
Sthala Purana: Rāma installs and worships a Śiva-liṅga at Setubandha/Rāmeśvaram to atone for brahmahatyā-doṣa incurred in the Rāvaṇa episode; the liṅga becomes a Jyotirliṅga granting purification and liberation, especially through Gaṅgā-jala abhiṣeka.
Significance: Gaṅgā-jala abhiṣeka to Rāmeśvara with sadbhakti is said to confer jīvanmukti; removes pāpa and accelerates Śiva-anugraha leading to pāśa-kṣaya.
Role: liberating
It teaches that sincere bhakti expressed through sacred abhiṣeka to the Rāmeśvara Jyotirlinga—especially with Gaṅgā-jala—becomes a direct means to jīvanmukti, as Śiva’s grace cuts the bonds (pāśa) of karma.
Rāmeśvara is worshiped as the Saguna manifestation of Śiva in the form of the Jyotirlinga; bathing the Linga with Gaṅgā water is a concrete devotional act through which the devotee approaches the formless (Nirguṇa) reality by Śiva’s embodied symbol.
Perform Linga-abhiṣeka with Gaṅgā water at Rāmeśvara (or with reverently obtained Gaṅgā-jala), offering it with sadbhakti while repeating Śiva’s name or the Pañcākṣarī mantra “Om Namaḥ Śivāya.”
