Some remained there absorbed in meditation, having assumed the most excellent, steady posture; and some, filled with joy, performed the mental worship of Lord Śiva.

Role: teaching
It praises two complementary Shaiva disciplines—steady meditation (dhyāna) and inner worship (mānasa-śivapūjā)—showing that devotion to Śiva can be perfected internally through concentration and heartfelt reverence, not only through external rites.
Mental worship (mānasa pūjā) treats Śiva—often contemplated as the Liṅga or as a gracious Saguna form—as present within awareness; offerings like flowers, water, and mantra are visualized and dedicated inwardly, affirming Śiva’s immanence even when outer ritual is unavailable.
It suggests adopting a stable āsana for dhyāna and performing mānasa pūjā—invoking Śiva in the heart and offering imagined upacāras with devotion; this can be paired with japa of the Pañcākṣarī mantra “Om Namaḥ Śivāya” as a focused inner practice.
