It warns that inner motive (āśaya) shapes speech and karma: when intention is impure, even factual events are presented falsely, creating bondage (pāśa) rather than the clarity that supports devotion to Pati (Shiva).
Linga-worship emphasizes śuddhi (purification) of mind, speech, and conduct; this verse highlights the opposite tendency—misrepresentation—showing why devotees approach Saguna Shiva with truthfulness and integrity to receive grace.
A practical takeaway is vāṅ-niyama (discipline of speech) supported by daily japa of the Panchakshara—“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”—and self-examination before worship, so the offering is made with a straight, non-deceptive mind.
