To the east of the northern gateway, following the prescribed rule of pradakṣiṇā (clockwise circumambulation), one should worship (Śiva) by the method of the aṣṭa‑nāma—the eightfold set of divine Names; thus indeed it is taught.
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Sadāśiva
Significance: Pradakṣiṇā and nāma-japa/archana are presented as a regulated approach to Śiva that purifies the bound soul (paśu) and disposes it toward grace (anugraha).
Type: stotra
Offering: pushpa
It teaches that devotion is embodied through disciplined action: approaching the sacred space correctly, performing clockwise pradakṣiṇā, and worshipping Śiva through His names—linking outer ritual to inner remembrance of Pati (Lord) who grants liberation.
Pradakṣiṇā and nāma-japa are classic supports for saguna-upāsanā: the devotee honors Śiva as present in the Liṅga and in sacred space, while the recitation of names steadies the mind in reverent contemplation.
Perform clockwise circumambulation as prescribed, then worship by chanting an eight-name set (nāmāṣṭaka) with offerings; it can be paired with mantra remembrance such as the pañcākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) for focused devotion.
