Sannyāsa Maṇḍala Vidhi—Procedure for the Renunciate Mandala
उकारमुत्तरे रक्तं मकारं पश्चिमे ततः । अकारं पीतमेवं तु कृत्वा वर्णचतुष्टयम्
ukāramuttare raktaṃ makāraṃ paścime tataḥ | akāraṃ pītamevaṃ tu kṛtvā varṇacatuṣṭayam
Place the syllable “u” in the northern quarter as red; then place the syllable “ma” in the western quarter; and place the syllable “a” as yellow. Thus one should arrange the set of four sacred syllables.
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pasha
Shiva Form: Sadāśiva
Mantra: (Implied mapping of phonemes within the Śiva-mantra matrix; explicit here: ukāra, makāra, akāra)
Type: panchakshara
It teaches mantra-nyāsa with directional and color visualization, disciplining the mind to contemplate Shiva’s mantra as a living sacred presence—an inner worship aligned with Shaiva Siddhanta’s path of purification and grace.
By assigning syllables to quarters with specific colors, the practitioner ritually “installs” the mantra around the sacred center—supporting Saguna contemplation that leads the devotee toward the deeper, transcendent reality of Shiva.
A mantra-dhyāna/nyāsa practice: visualize specific syllables in particular directions with prescribed colors as part of Shiva-mantra japa and inner Linga worship, especially suitable for focused sādhanā on auspicious days like Mahashivratri.
