Questions on Guruhood, Lineage, and Purificatory Discipline
O Brahman, I speak these words to you—listen with a fully attentive mind. Hold them firmly in your heart; then speak them back clearly and exactly as stated.
Lord Shiva
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Dakṣiṇāmūrti
Role: teaching
It teaches śravaṇa (deep listening) and dhāraṇā (inner retention) as prerequisites for right knowledge—so Shiva’s teaching is preserved without distortion and becomes fit to mature into realization of Pati (Shiva) beyond pasha (bondage).
Linga-worship relies on correct reception and repetition of Shiva’s injunctions—mantra, pūjā-vidhi, and contemplations. This verse emphasizes precision and clarity in recitation, supporting disciplined Saguna upāsanā that leads the devotee toward Shiva’s highest truth.
A practical takeaway is attentive mantra-hearing and exact japa/recitation—listen carefully, retain inwardly, and repeat distinctly (spashta-ucchāra). This aligns with steady dhyāna and disciplined daily practice during Shiva worship and Mahashivratri observances.
