These have been declared subtle by the sages who behold the tattvas, the true principles. They are to be understood as the organs of action (karmendriyas), each together with its own proper function.
Lord Shiva (teaching a philosophical discourse in the Kailasha Samhita)
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Dakṣiṇāmūrti
It emphasizes tattva-jñāna: recognizing the karmendriyas as subtle instruments of embodied action helps the seeker discern the soul (paśu) from its instruments and loosen bondage (pāśa) on the way to Shiva (Pati).
Linga/Saguna Shiva worship purifies and disciplines action; by knowing the organs of action and their functions, one offers karma as worship, gradually turning outward activity into inward Shiva-oriented practice.
Practice mindful restraint and consecration of actions—apply bhasma (tripuṇḍra) and repeat the Panchakshara (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) while dedicating each action to Shiva, treating the karmendriyas as instruments rather than the Self.
