The Determination of Śiva as the Meaning of Praṇava
उत्थाय च ततो ब्रूयादमृतम्भवतु द्विजान् । प्रार्थयेच्च परं प्रीत्या कृतांजलिरुदारधीः
utthāya ca tato brūyādamṛtambhavatu dvijān | prārthayecca paraṃ prītyā kṛtāṃjalirudāradhīḥ
Then rising, the noble-minded one should say to the twice-born: “May this be as nectar—a blessing—for you.” With hands joined in reverence, he should lovingly beseech the Supreme with heartfelt devotion.
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Sadāśiva
Significance: Frames blessing (āśīrvāda) and prayer to Paramaśiva as the channel by which merit ripens into Śiva’s anugraha; reinforces the devotee’s dependence (paśu) upon the Lord (pati).
Mantra: अमृतं भवतु द्विजान्
Type: stotra
It teaches Shaiva dharma through conduct: rise with humility, bless the worthy, and pray to the Supreme (Paramashiva) with loving devotion—outer reverence supporting inner bhakti that leads toward liberation.
The verse emphasizes devotional posture (kṛtāñjali) and heartfelt prayer—key elements of Saguna Shiva worship (including Linga-puja), where respectful actions and loving supplication purify the devotee’s intent.
A simple upachara: stand respectfully, join the palms, offer auspicious blessings, and pray with prīti (loving focus). It aligns well with japa of the Panchakshara and calm, reverent meditation before Shiva.
