किमर्थमत्र युष्माभिरध्वरे परमेश्वरः । स्वर्चितो भक्तिभावेन साम्बस्संसारमोचकः
kimarthamatra yuṣmābhiradhvare parameśvaraḥ | svarcito bhaktibhāvena sāmbassaṃsāramocakaḥ
“For what purpose, in this sacrifice, have you worshipped the Supreme Lord—Sāmba (Śiva united with Umā)—with a spirit of devotion, He who is the liberator from saṃsāra?”
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Umāpati
Significance: General: worship of Sāmba (Śiva with Umā) as saṃsāra-mocaka is framed as a means to loosen pāśa (bondage) and obtain Śiva’s anugraha.
Type: stotra
Shakti Form: Umā
Role: liberating
Offering: naivedya
The verse highlights that the true aim of worship—whether performed in a yajña or otherwise—is liberation from saṃsāra, attained by devoted reverence to Parameśvara, Śiva as Sāmba (with Umā).
By naming Śiva as Sāmba and Parameśvara, the verse points to Saguna worship—approaching the Supreme through a gracious, worship-worthy form—where devotion sanctifies ritual and leads the seeker toward mokṣa.
It suggests bhakti-centered worship within sacred rites: offering pūjā with a focused devotional attitude, supported by japa of Śiva-mantras (such as the Pañcākṣarī) and remembrance of Śiva as the remover of bondage.
