महोदरवधः (The Slaying of Mahodara)
वानराश्चमहासत्त्वाःप्रगृह्वःविपुलाशशिलाः ।प्रविश्यारिबलंभीमंजघ्नुस्तेरजनीचरान् ।।6.98.8।।
mahodaraṃ taṃ nipātya bhūmau mahāgireḥ kīrṇam ivaikadeśam |
sūryātmajas tatra rarāja lakṣmyā sūryaḥ svatejobhir ivāpradhṛṣyaḥ ||6.98.37||
Having felled Mahodara to the ground—like a fragment of a great mountain cast down—the son of the Sun shone there in splendor, unassailable, like the Sun blazing by its own radiance.
The mighty Vanaras also seizing huge rocks entered into the frightening enemy army of the Rakshasas.
The verse presents the triumph of rightful force over destructive aggression; dharma is portrayed as radiance and stability—victory that stands “unassailable” when aligned with a just cause.
Sugrīva (son of the Sun) has defeated and brought down Mahodara; the narrator describes the fall and Sugrīva’s resplendent presence afterward.
Sugrīva’s steadfast valor and overpowering tejas (radiant strength), depicted as controlled, luminous power rather than rage.
