न्यग्रोध-प्रवेश-निवारणम् (Preventing Indrajit’s Banyan-Tree Rite) / Indrajit Confronts Vibhishana
धर्षयित्वा च काकुत्स्थं न शक्यंजीवितुंत्वया ।युध्यस्वनरदेवेनलक्ष्मणेनरणेसह ।।6.87.29।।हतस्त्वंदेवताकार्यंकरिष्यसियमक्षये ।
tam apraviṣṭaṃ nyagrodhaṃ balinaṃ rāvaṇātmajam | vidhvaṃsaya śarair dīptaiḥ sa-rathaṃ sāśva-sārathim || 6.87.6 ||
Before he can enter the banyan, destroy that powerful son of Rāvaṇa with blazing arrows—together with his chariot, horses, and charioteer.
"Clashing with Lakshmana of Kakuthsa clan is not possible for you. By waging war with Lakshmana, you will be killed and reaching the abode of the Lord of death. You will be doing tasks of deities of Devatas."
Dharma permits decisive action to prevent a greater unrighteous harm—stopping an adharma-powered rite before it endangers many.
Vibhīṣaṇa instructs Lakṣmaṇa to strike Indrajit before he reaches the nyagrodha, where his ritual advantage would be secured.
Lakṣmaṇa’s kṣātra-dharma (warrior duty): swift, focused action in defense of the just cause.
