निकुम्भिला-यज्ञविघ्नोपदेशः (Counsel to Disrupt the Nikumbhilā Rite)
राघवं च महात्मानमिक्ष्वाकुकुलनन्दनम् ।ददर्शमोहमापन्नंलक्ष्मणस्याङ्गमाश्रितम् ।।।।
hatā indrajitā sīteti śrutvaiva rāghavaḥ |
hanūmadvacanāt saumya tato moham upāgataḥ ||
“O gentle one: hearing from Hanūmān’s words that ‘Sītā has been slain by Indrajit,’ Rāghava at once fell into bewilderment.”
He (Vibheeshana) saw the great soul, the delight of the Ikshvaku race deluded, distressed, and lying on the lap of Lakshmana.
It warns that decisions must rest on verified truth (satya); unexamined reports can drive even the righteous into moha.
Lakṣmaṇa explains that Rāma’s collapse followed the report—attributed to Hanūmān’s words—that Sītā was killed by Indrajit.
Lakṣmaṇa’s clarity and responsibility in reporting facts as he understands them to allies.
