Shloka 6.76.85
युद्धे अङ्गद-मैन्द-द्विविद-राक्षसयुद्धम्; कुम्भस्य प्रादुर्भावः तथा सुग्रीवेण पराभवः (Sarga 76: Angada and the Vanara chiefs battle Kampana, Prajaṅgha, Yūpākṣa, Śoṇitākṣa; Kumbha enters and is checked by Sugrīva)
ततःकुम्भनिपातेनजलराशिस्समुत्थितः ।व्निध्यमन्दरसङ्काशोविससर्पसमन्ततः ।।।।
tataḥ kumbhanipātena jalarāśiḥ samutthitaḥ |
vindhyamandarasaṅkāśo visasarp samantataḥ ||
Then, by Kumbha’s plunge, the mass of water heaved up—looming like Vindhya and Mandara—spreading and surging in all directions.
By Kumbha falling into the ocean, it got swollen to the form of Vindhya and Mandara mountain and water flowed all over.
The verse reinforces the epic’s moral atmosphere: great deeds produce great effects. Dharma calls for responsibility proportional to one’s power.
Kumbha’s impact in the sea creates a massive swell; the narration uses mountain imagery to convey the scale.
Might (mahā-bala) as a narrative force—power so immense it moves the natural world.
