युद्धे अङ्गद-मैन्द-द्विविद-राक्षसयुद्धम्; कुम्भस्य प्रादुर्भावः तथा सुग्रीवेण पराभवः (Sarga 76: Angada and the Vanara chiefs battle Kampana, Prajaṅgha, Yūpākṣa, Śoṇitākṣa; Kumbha enters and is checked by Sugrīva)
वरदानापतितृव्यस्तेसहतेदेवदानवान् ।कुम्भकर्णस्तुवीर्येणसहते च सुरासुरान् ।।।।
varadānāt pitṛvyas te sahate deva-dānavān | kumbhakarṇas tu vīryeṇa sahate ca surāsurān ||
By the power of boons bestowed, your uncle can withstand even the Devas and the Dānavas; and Kumbhakarṇa, by sheer valor, can withstand both gods and demons.
"Your uncle Ravana is able to withstand the Devas and Danavas by virtue of the boons and Kumbhakarna was able to with stand gods and demons by virtue of his courage."
A moral contrast is implied: power gained through boons versus power grounded in personal valor—dharma values inner merit and right use of strength over mere granted advantage.
Sugrīva frames Kumbha’s lineage and the standards set by Rāvaṇa and Kumbhakarṇa to intensify the challenge.
Vīrya (intrinsic courage) as a higher, more admirable basis of strength than external gifts.
