लङ्कादाह-प्रचोदनं तथा वानर-राक्षस-समरारम्भः (The Burning of Lanka and the Outbreak of Battle)
तेषांगृहसहस्राणिददाहहुतभुक्तदा ।।।।प्रासादाःपर्वताकाराःपतन्तिधरणीतले ।
teṣāṃ gṛhasahasrāṇi dadāha hutabhuk tadā | prāsādāḥ parvatākārāḥ patanti dharaṇītale ||
At that moment, the fire consumed thousands of their residences; mansions vast as mountains collapsed onto the surface of the earth.
Then thousands of their houses were burnt by fire (consumer of offerings), and mountain like mansions collapsed to the ground.
'Hutabhuk' literally means 'one who eats the offering/oblation.' Its usage here suggests that the destruction of Lanka by fire was not merely chaotic, but akin to a ritual sacrifice where the city was the offering consumed by Agni.
The adjective 'Parvatakarah' emphasizes the immense scale, solidity, and grandeur of the Rakshasa architecture. It highlights the severity of the destruction, showing that even structures as massive as mountains were brought down by the fire.
