औषधिपर्वताहरणम् / The Retrieval of the Herb-Bearing Mountain
स सागरंघूर्णितवीचिमालंतथाभृशंभ्रामितसर्वसत्त्वम् ।समीक्षमाणस्सहसाजगामचक्रंयथाविष्णुकराग्रमुक्तम् ।।6.74.52।।
sa sāgaraṃ ghūrṇita-vīci-mālaṃ tathābhṛśaṃ bhrāmita-sarva-sattvam | samīkṣamāṇaḥ sahasā jagāma cakraṃ yathā viṣṇu-karāgra-muktam ||
Watching the ocean—its garlands of waves set swirling and its creatures violently whirled about—he rushed forth at once, like Viṣṇu’s discus released from the edge of His hand.
Observing the ocean whose waves were made to revolve round (by his speed), exceedingly, whose creatures were made to whirl round violently (by the wind force generated by his speed), he went forth like the wheel loosened from Vishnu's hand.
Dharma is the idea of divinely sanctioned momentum in a righteous cause: the simile of Viṣṇu’s discus suggests force guided by higher order rather than reckless violence.
Hanumān’s passage agitates the sea itself; he advances with sudden, unstoppable swiftness.
