प्रहस्तवधः (The Slaying of Prahasta)
अथकुम्भहनुस्तत्रतारेणासाद्यवीर्यवान् ।।।।वृक्षेणाभिहतोमूर्ध्निप्राणान्सन्त्याजयद्रणे ।
atha kumbhahanuḥ tatra tāreṇāsādya vīryavān | vṛkṣeṇābhihato mūrdhni prāṇān santyājayad raṇe ||
Then, on that battlefield, the valiant Kumbhahanu was confronted by Tārā; struck on the head with a tree, he gave up his life in the fight.
And thereafter, valiant Tara closed with Kumbhahanu and attacked him with a tree on the head and he lost his life.
The verse underscores steadfastness in dharmic struggle: even non-royal allies (vānaras) bear responsibility to confront violent adharma.
Tārā engages the rākṣasa Kumbhahanu directly and kills him by striking his head with a tree.
Śaurya (heroic courage) combined with initiative—Tārā closes in and finishes the threat.
