“These two—noble in spirit, heroic, and lovers of battle—have been brought to this condition by deceitful Rākṣasas who fight with treachery.”
"Both the princess, who are endowed with good nature, and power are fond of combat. The Rakshasas have reduced them to this state by their deceitful ways."
The verse contrasts dharmic valor with adharma in warfare: righteousness rejects kūṭayuddha (treacherous tactics) and honors straightforward courage grounded in truth.
Vibhīṣaṇa laments the wounded condition of Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa and attributes it to deceitful tactics used by Rākṣasas.
Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa’s heroic steadfastness; and Vibhīṣaṇa’s moral clarity in condemning deceit.
