Shloka 6.49.13

शरबन्धनविलापः (The Lament under the Net of Arrows)

त्वंनित्यंसुविषण्णंमामाश्वासयसिलक्ष्मण ।गतासुर्नाद्यशक्तोऽसिमामार्तमभिभाषितुम् ।।6.49.13।।

tvaṃ nityaṃ suviṣaṇṇaṃ mām āśvāsayasi lakṣmaṇa |

gatāsur nādya śakto 'si mām ārtaṃ abhibhāṣitum || 6.49.13 ||

Lakṣmaṇa, you always consoled me when I was despondent; but now, with your life-breath gone, you can no longer speak to me in my anguish.

"You were always comforting me when I was sad. Now however much I am grieved, ceased of life you cannot comfort me."

L
Lakṣmaṇa
R
Rāma (implicit)

Dharma is relational care: the righteous life is sustained by mutual support; the verse highlights the ethical beauty of consolation, counsel, and brotherly guardianship.

Rāma addresses the seemingly lifeless Lakṣmaṇa, remembering how Lakṣmaṇa used to console him, and grieving that he cannot do so now.

Lakṣmaṇa’s devoted service and emotional steadiness—he is portrayed as Rāma’s constant support in adversity.
