Shloka 6.19.31
विभीषणाभिषेकः — The Consecration of Vibhishana and Counsel on Crossing the Ocean
खानितस्सगरेणायमप्रमेयोमहोदधिः ।कर्तुमर्हतिरामस्यज्ञाते: कार्यंमहामतिः ।।6.19.31।।
khānitaḥ sagareṇāyam aprameyo mahodadhiḥ | kartum arhati rāmasya jñāteḥ kāryaṃ mahāmatiḥ ||6.19.31||
This immeasurable great Ocean—once excavated by Sagara—should, in its great-mindedness, accomplish Rāma’s purpose, for Rāma is of that very lineage.
"This immeasurable great ocean was excavated by Sagara (A King of the Ikshvaku dynasty). The great ocean needs to do the task of Rama who is of the same race."
Dharma is framed as reciprocity and obligation rooted in rightful lineage and past benefaction: since the ocean was ‘made’ through Sagara’s act, it should now support Sagara’s descendant Rāma in a righteous mission.
Counsel is being given on how to cross the ocean to reach Laṅkā; the ocean is invoked as an entity that can be approached and persuaded to assist Rāma.
Appeal to greatness of mind (mahāmati) and righteous responsiveness—helping a rightful cause, especially when kinship/lineage ties are invoked.
