सीतासमीपगमनम् / Sītā Brought Near to Rāma (Public Witness and Protocol)
लज्जयात्ववलीयन्तीस्वेषुगात्रेषुमैथिली ।विभीषणेनानुगताभर्तारंसाभ्यवर्तत ।।।।
tato lakṣmaṇa-sugrīvau hanūmāṃś ca plavaṅgamaḥ | niśamya vākyaṃ rāmasya babhūvur vyathitā bhṛśam ||
Thereupon Lakṣmaṇa and Sugrīva, and Hanumān the Vānara too—having heard Rāma’s words—became deeply distressed.
Mythili, also adopting modesty, shrinking into her own limbs, approached her husband followed by Vibheeshana.
The verse highlights dharma’s complexity: righteous action can still cause anguish to the virtuous when it appears to conflict with compassion or expected marital duty.
Rāma’s instructions regarding Sītā’s approach provoke distress in his closest allies, who sense an impending severity.
