सीतासान्त्वनम् / Hanuman Consoles Sita with the News of Victory
अथोवाचपुनस्सीतामसम्भ्रान्तोविनीतवत् ।।6.116.29।।प्रगृहीताञ्चलिर्हर्षात्सीतायाःप्रमुखेस्थितः ।
praviśya ca purīṃ laṅkāṃ pūjyamāno niśācaraiḥ |
tatas tenābhyanujñāto hanumān vṛkṣavāṭikām ||6.116.2||
sampraviśya yathānyāyaṃ sītāyā vidito hariḥ |
dadarśa mṛjayā hīnāṃ sātaṅkāṃ rohiṇīm iva ||6.116.3||
vṛkṣamūle nirānandāṃ rākṣasībhiḥ parivṛtām |
nibhṛtaḥ praṇataḥ prahvaḥ so 'bhigamyābhivādya ca ||6.116.4||
Entering the city of Laṅkā—honored by the night-rangers—and, with permission granted, Hanumān went to the grove of trees. Entering as was proper, the monkey already known to Sītā saw her: unkempt, without cleansing, anxious, like Rohiṇī. Joyless at the foot of a tree and surrounded by rākṣasī women, he approached restrained and silent, bowed in humility, and paid her reverence.
Now with folded palms offering prayers to Sita, Hanuman stood without perturbation, with all humility and again spoke to Sita.
Even in hostile territory, dharma appears as disciplined conduct—approaching the suffering with reverence, restraint, and compassion.
