रावणस्य अन्त्येष्टिः — Ravana’s Funeral Rites and the Ethics of Post-War Conduct

इत्येवंविलपन्तिसाबाष्पपर्याकुलेक्षणा ।।।।स्नेहोपस्कन्नहृदया तदा मोहामुपागमत् ।

ity evaṁ vilapantī sā bāṣpaparyākulekṣaṇā |

snehopaskannahṛdayā tadā mohām upāgamat ||

Thus wailing, her eyes choked with tears and her heart overwhelmed by love, she then fell into a swoon of delusion.

Wailing in this way, eyes filled with tears, heart filled with extreme love, (Mandodari) she was in delusion.

Dharma acknowledges human vulnerability; compassion toward the grieving is itself righteous conduct.

After lamenting over Rāvaṇa, Mandodarī becomes overwhelmed and loses consciousness.

Human tenderness—love that persists even amid catastrophic consequences.
