रावणस्य अन्त्येष्टिः — Ravana’s Funeral Rites and the Ethics of Post-War Conduct
कस्मात्त्वंमांविहायेहकृपणांगन्तुमिच्छसि ।।।।दीनांविलपतींमन्दांकिंवामांनाभिभाषसे ।
dṛṣṭvā na khalv abhikruddho mām ihānavakuṇṭhitām | nirgātāṃ nagaradvārāt padbhyām evāgatāṃ prabho ||
O lord, seeing me here—unabashed—having come out through the city gate and arrived on foot, how is it that you are not angered?
"You are leaving me, a desperate one, stricken, crying. Why are you desiring to go? Why are you not replying to me?"
It contrasts former royal norms (where the king might police decorum) with the silence of death—implying that pride in control and status is ultimately powerless.
Mandodarī notes that she has come out publicly and on foot to the battlefield—actions that might once have provoked Rāvaṇa’s rebuke—yet he is now incapable of response.
