As the great-souled Rāghava spoke in this way, Lakṣmaṇa, moved by those faltering, weakened words, replied in return.
'Lakshmana! If you had not come out of death, what use is life to me? What is the use of Sita? What is the meaning of life' said Rama?
Dharma includes correcting despairing speech when it weakens resolve; Lakṣmaṇa prepares to restore Rāma’s steadiness in duty.
After hearing Rāma’s emotionally charged statements, Lakṣmaṇa begins to answer him.
Lakṣmaṇa’s discernment and courage to advise even his revered elder.
